You'll be swept away on a musical magic carpet ride following the surging crests and spiraling plunges of exotic melodies with Adam Basma's newest CD release "Odyssey." The album's upbeat theme song "Ya-La" beckons adventurers to journey across the Middle Eastern countries to visit loved ones.
A visit to Lebanon sparks off the Odyssey. Two Lebanese debkah style folk songs in which the sensuous shriek of the mizmar is intermittently contrasted by a heavy percussive punch are sure to claim any audience. Then on to Egypt for the harmonious sound of favorites "Yala Bina," "Iskandarani" and a special instrumental suitable for the Cane Dance. Next we hear winds of ancient civilizations blowing through marsh reeds in Iraq with mesmerizing flute tones. A myriad of drum rhythms throughout Iraqi songs "Lich ya Jarah" and "Fok Annakhel" echo the beating hearts of desert peasants. In North Africa "Ya-Ra-Yeh" captures the rolling gait of the camel in its melodic soars and assertive thumps. Folk songs "Ya Reem" of the Arabian Gulf and "Ya-Sa-Ri-Ya" of Yemen contain interludes particularly good for practicing dance techniques. "Dance With Adam" challenges professional dancers with a complete cabaret routine including the most multi-faceted drum solo ever recorded.
By popular demand, famous drummer "Issam" is back recording for the Basma CD series. Issam generously took time off from his tours with pop star "Sting" to create this killer drum solo. It commands attention with intricate pattering, crisp snaps, deep thuds and wild beats that provoke the libido. All of the cuts are spiced with the super sexy singing of concert star "Sally" and the wonderful musical talents of singer/keyboarder/master engineer Bilal Hakkani.
